Preparing your enquiry

What to gather before you ask about plumbing work

A few details make a first message much easier to answer. Work through the checklist at your own pace. It is general preparation, useful whichever plumber you contact, and your ticks are saved on this device only.

What to gather

The checklist is split into the place, the job, and what to settle before you agree. You do not need every item; a partial enquiry is still welcome.

Photos help more than long descriptions. Take a wide shot and a close one of the area in question.

  • The address or area of the property
  • A short description of what is wrong or what you want
  • Photos, plans or measurements, if you have them
  • Make and model of any appliance or fitting involved
  • Preferred timing, who gives permission, how to access, and how you would like us to reply
About the place

Where the work is and how it can be reached. This helps us read your enquiry in context.

Use these details in your enquiry
About the job

What you can see, what you want changed and what equipment is involved. Photos and measurements help.

Before you agree

General questions to ask any contractor and to have answered in writing before work starts.

What to have in writing before work starts

These are questions worth putting to any contractor, not a description of our process. Ask for the answers in writing so both sides know what has been agreed.

If something is unclear, ask again before you say yes. A clear written scope is easier to check than a conversation remembered later.

  • The scope: exactly what work is included
  • Exclusions: what is not included
  • Materials: what will be used and who supplies them
  • Costs: how they are set out and what could change them
  • Scheduling: expected start, duration and access needed
